The next generation of cranberry products, such as cranberry seed oil, will extend the industry’s reach far beyond urinary tract health. Various studies also show that cranberry proanthocyanidins (PACs) found in whole fruit cranberry powder may also provide support for prostate health.

PACs are beneficial polyphenols found in abundance in cranberry. They support health in a number of different areas, including urinary tract and oral health. Now, an in-vitro study conducted on cranberry by researchers at Dartmouth University and University of Prince Edward Island, demonstrated that cranberry PACs appear to be toxic to human prostate cancer cells by interrupting the cancer cells’ lifecycle.

With respect to cranberry seed oil, there is research that two teaspoons (about 10 grams) of beta sitosterol found in plant sterols such as cranberry oil may also help to reduce the inflammation associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or the enlargement of the prostate gland. This enlargement can interfere with urination, increasing the frequency and urge or cause problems emptying the bladder in older men. In a review conducted by The Cochrane Collaboration, dietary preparations containing beta-sitosterols, similar to those found in high-quality cranberry ingredients, were studied for their ability to possibly help relieve urinary symptoms associated with mild-to-moderate BPH.

The future holds great promise for the cranberry industry that goes beyond UTIs. But not all cranberry is of the same quality.  Fruit d’Or is doing its due diligence by confirming the composition of all its cranberry ingredients through the Cranberry Quality Assurance testing program. This self-regulation raises the bar on quality standards, improves standardization and helps ensure the efficacy of Fruit d’Or’s ingredients. When looking for quality cranberry ingredients that you can trust, start with Fruit d’Or and then compare against other cranberry suppliers. We promise that you will see the differences and advantages of growing your business with Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals.
